Sandford Orchards was born from a passion for authentic cider and a deep connection to Devon’s orchard heritage. Growing up in an orchard in Devon, founder Barny Butterfield was immersed in the region’s cider-making culture from an early age, developing a lasting appreciation for traditional methods and the character of true cider apples.

Unable to find the cider he wanted to drink, he began making his own in small batches for friends and family. Demand quickly grew, and what started as a personal project soon evolved into something bigger. By 2002, Sandford Orchards was officially established and cider making became a full-time pursuit.

From the beginning, the focus has been on making cider the right way: pressing true cider apples, fermenting from fresh juice and allowing the cider time to mature, age and develop its full character. Only when the cider tastes exactly as it should - will it be blended, packaged and proudly released under the Sandford Orchards name.
